Home Remedies for Colds and Allergies
Filed Under (Home Remedies, Natural Remedies) by Our Home Remedies on 01-06-2009
The weather nowadays seems so unpredictable although we have been learning so many years that certain months have particular seasons. Usually at these times, I often see many people got cold, sore throat or allergy. Here are some tips below to deal with such ailments using home remedies which I came across from a grandmother’s experience combine with my own.
Bronchitis: For mild bronchitis symptoms, use a vaporizer, take a steamy shower or turn the hot water on in the sink and cover your head and the sink with a towel (kind of a quick and easy sauna) to ease your discomfort and open up your chest.
Congestion: Red pepper, jalapenos and hot salsa will temporarily open up your nasal passages and break up congestion.
Eat plenty of varied fruits like oranges, kiwi, guava, papaya, etc. and make your plate a ‘rainbow’ plate which means regularly eat different colors of fruits.
Echinacea: drink Echinacea tea at the very first sign of a cold.
Green tea: Green tea is a natural antihistamine, which helps both allergies and colds. Choose Oolong type (Chinese green tea) or Ocha type (Japanese green tea).
Saline nose drops: Make your own nose drops by sprinkling some salt in boiled water (about 1/4 cup) to break up congestion and help you breathe (or you can get it already bottled and ready to use at the local drug store).
Sore throat, gargle salt water several times daily or gargle cider vinegar. Another way is you can chew on a cod liver oil pill, or drink hot green tea as (jujube tea).
Thyme: Make a tea with thyme or add a little to your recipes when you cook to break up congestion and relieve stuffy noses.
Vicks Up: Rub a little Vick’s Vapor Rub or another menthol salve on the upper chest, then rub what is left on your fingers under your nose, this can break up congestion and help you breathe more easily.

Due to climate changes having colds is really typical with this kind of weather. Good to know those remedies.
Weather is quite erratic now a days, mentioned sickness above is very typical. Eating healthy is first step to prevent sickness and to have strong immune system.
Especially now that A(H1N1) virus is spreading. Better to be healthy.

hey,
im from New Delhi India, i have had unberarable allergy since childhood, but i didnt notice it till i was 20. I had acute sinusitis when i was in my teens, but then i consulted a doctor & he prescribed a sinus spray of which i dont remember the name, the good thing was that, my acute sinusitis was gone, there was no more congested nose, but then other allergies surfaced, it happens such that right at the onset of winter, from the fall itself. whenever i “Touch” something cold or below my body temperature, i get severy sneezes and a runny nose immediately & it lasts for about 3-4 hours after that.
Even if all my body parts are covered & im maintaining a nice body temperature, the moment something as simple as a kiss from someones cold lips can trigger my problem, i have to go through this every morning when i set my feet out of my bed, it lands on a cold set of slippers which again triggers my allergy there & then.
plz inform me about a remedy or atleast inform me about my problem as i dont even know what it is.
Regards.
