Walking Meditation: An Alternative Natural Healing?

Filed Under (Holistic Remedies, Natural Cure) by Eri on 20-03-2009

I read about walking meditation in a health magazine. Very intriguing. I believe, a walk can release your stress and letting go your negative emotions, based on my own experience. I haven’t realized it that until I read that particular article, actually few years ago I had done the walking meditation. It was due to my natural intuitive wanted so badly to get rid all the negative emotions from inside me. Then I just walked, and walked, took a deep breath from the fresh breeze air surround me along the small green space along my path walk. After around 30 minutes of walk, I felt so fresh and relieved. It was like rejuvenating!

Some studies even proved that a walk can overcome your trauma by balancing your brain functions and as a way of meditating. Last but not least, increasing the happy hormones production in your body!

What are other significant benefits you can get from a walk?

-         Calm down your restless mind and wild thoughts

-         Detox your negative emotions

-         Increase your vitality

-         A natural healing to your depression and your trauma

-         The most natural physical activity (easy and simple) for your metabolism system

-         Relax

Can you imagine that by doing a walk, actually you have been doing massage (reflexology or acupressure) on your feet. Especially if you walk without any shoes or slippers, just bare feet. I remember that my late grandfather always reminded my late mother to do a brisk walk every morning - after sunrise enjoying the warm sunshine - on grass or small stone without shoes or slippers.

Walk, like a cat!

Jane Long, a reflexologist from UK (Times, August 2008) explained that experiencing the sensation of different textures, and wading through streams in your bare feet can only make you feel invigorated, especially as each foot has more than 7,000 nerve endings and 26 bones, making it a very sensitive part of the body.

Please bear in mind also that this walk would get the best result for you, if:

-         Before you begin, apply in your state of mind and heart the purpose for your walk, for instance to get rid all the overload energy because we feel angry, or to heal your broken heart.

-         Walk as natural as possible, do not control your walk rhythm because later on your walk will automatically becoming one with the universe; Just feel every sensation you have in your body without thinking

-         Your surrounding is clean fresh air (not pollutant), most likely near beach or mountain where nature embrace you a lot

-         With bare feet, not wearing shoes or slippers

-         Walk on grass, small stones or sand beach

-         Apply normal breathing rhythm

-         Do it alone to find your own ryhthm of your walk

-         At least you do it for 30 minutes

-         End your walk by being grateful to The Almighty who creates you

Please share with all of us here if you think there is other condition we should put in during our walking meditation.

I agree with you and every time I feel stressed I go for a walk. Especially if I am trying to figure something out. Many times by the time I get back I have the answer. One important thing is where you walk. Walk close to a busy road and you may have more stress when you get back.

@Bo, The idea is when walking is just focus on nothing, no mind and thoughts to assure your meditation. Thanks Bo for comments.

Yes, Ari that is what I do when I walk. I clear my mind and i do not think about anything. When I get through walking the answer is there. If I spend the time walking thinking about things then it does not help a lot just relaxes me.

For me I have to get outside. Being inside is a relatively new experience in my life. For the first 50 years I spent very few waking hours indoors. I can’t meditate inside and really do not want to learn how. I am about a 5 minute walk from open forested areas.

    Thanks
