Natural Remedies For Colds To Ease Unwanted Symptoms

Filed Under (Natural Cure, Natural Remedies) by Eri on 14-11-2009

Natural remedies for colds are extremely common because the chemical preparations that can be bought in all pharmacies merely ease the unwanted symptoms and minimise their longevity. These remedies can be traced back for thousands of years.

The usual complaints whilst suffering from a cold are coughing, a painful throat, runny nose, congestion, painful aches all over, tiredness, headaches, fever, feeling sick, vomiting and a lack of appetite.

Natural remedies for colds need not be hard to obtain or make. Initially raising the humidity of your rooms will help reduce the discomfort of a cold. But also make sure to keep your insides hydrated. By drinking more fluids, especially water, you will alleviate symptoms, replace fluids and flush out infection faster. Lemon is also very important among the many natural remedies for the common cold as it help to fight infection and is an antibacterial agent. Honey helps to soothe sore throats. Echinacea and goldenseal have been shown to reduce the symptoms and aid recovery.

If you feel really blocked up the following are extremely helpful: garlic, onion, ginger, spices such as pepper, cayenne, chilli powder, turmeric, cinnamon, cumin, cloves and herbs such as thyme and oregano. Many of these fight infections and are antiviral.

Use tea tree, eucalyptus and peppermint aromatherapy oils to help loosen mucus and heals the throat, nasal passages and bronchial tubes. Inhale vapors of these oils by putting it on a cotton ball, in a steam bath or an aromatherapy diffuser.

Of the many natural remedies for colds there are some surprising ones such as drinking catnip tea (catnip is usually for cats). This herbal remedy has been known for some time. Catnip works as an expectorant and opens up the bronchial passages helping you breathe more easily. It also helps to reduce a high temperature by making you sweat. Catnip contains a sedative compound so it will also help you go to sleep. Catnip should be avoided by pregnant women.

10 Tricks To Avoid Flu and Survive During Cold

Filed Under (Home Remedies, Natural Remedies) by Eri on 17-12-2008

No matter where you live whether you have 4 seasons, winter, spring, autumn, summer or only 2 seasons, rainy and dry, mostly during the seasonal changing and specifically during the coldest temperature drops, we found many people often get flu, coughs and common colds.

Are there any simple tips on how to deal with this cold stuff?

No worries, here below 10 natural ways to guard yourself and your family:

1.  Sugar and processed foods impact the immune system

Our overall health is determined by the immune system whether it is working properly or not will have the huge impact on how you survive in every kind of conditions. Therefore any intake into your body, either can make you healthy in the long run, or deteriorate your physical strength.

Please be aware of these foods below:

sodas, candy, cookies, ice cream, and potato chips, yogurt, and yogurt drinks and “pops”, most cereals, juices, fruit roll ups and “leathers”, “healthy” cookies and treats, soy ice cream and frozen treats.

Last but not least, read carefully ingredient labels and watch out for:

corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup or “HFCS,” brown rice syrup, fructose, sucrose, barleymalt and the obvious, sugar.

2.  Fresh foods offer the highest quality vitamins

Please bear in mind that fresh foods still hold the resources for your body to absorb the highest quality of Vitamin C and other essential vitamins to keep up your immune system. They are fresh whole foods such as cherries, berries, and apples, and vegetables such as spinach, kale, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, carrots and sweet potatoes.

If you get bored to eat vegetables, please try creative ways to make it more appealing to your taste, such as sautee, roast or grill vegetables with olive oil or real butter, add some fresh sea salt or sprinkle with organic low fat cheese.

3.   Sleep will boost the immune system

Deep sleep allows a complex set of hormonal changes that recharge the body so that it’s resilient the next day. While we are resting at night, our body is working to overhaul our immune system.

4.   Fatigue is the first sign of a distressed immune system

Our body actually has certain signals for us to indicate whether we are in a good condition, or about to get sick. Fatigue, is one of that signal. The best way to fight any sick-candidate is to get some good additional rest, such as adding a mid-day nap.

The immune system desperately needs sleep to keep the body healthy. When the immune system is fighting to keep you healthy, it requests that the body get extra rest to help in the fight.

5.  Wash hands frequently, but avoid antibacterial products

It is imperative to wash hands frequently during flu season, remember that the hands are only one very small way that germs enter your immune system. Killing off the germs on hands with antibacterial products is futile and weakens yourself - and the world’s- future ability to confront germs.

6.   Vitamin C to Prevent Colds: oranges and orange juice

You can have the traditional way to prevent yourself from cold by increasing your daily intake with a daily dose of orange or grapefruit juice, peaches, red peppers or other Vitamin C-rich food — or with a vitamin supplement. Double up with Echinacea for an added boost. Other natural cold-preventatives include the herb andrographis, zinc and elderberry extract.

7.   Thyme for a Cough

You can try this natural remedies, add three tablespoons of dried thyme to one pint of boiling water. Let cool, then add one cup of honey. Take one teaspoon every hour as needed. You can store the mix in the fridge for up to three months.

Just add garlic to your meals for a both a short-term treatment and long-term fortification against the next cold or flu virus.

Natural Remedies to combat your runny nose is boil water with a drop or two of eucalyptus oil. Stand with your head about 18 inches above the pot to avoid scalding, cover your head and the pot of water with a towel, and breathe deeply.

9.    Leafy Greens for Nose bleeds
