Healthy Choice of New You (Part 2)

8th resolution

Old: Eat a lot of vegetables.

New: Eat green leaves.

Spinach, papaya leaf, caisim, etc. are rich in nutrition and high fiber which is good to get rid yourself from constipation problem. The Vitamin C in green leaves is higher than in oranges. Vitamin C is the master of nutrient, function as cholesterol level controller and improves your immune system. Please notice also how you cook them, because the important nutrition could not reach into your body if you do not know the proper ways. Firstofall, wash them and then cut them. Do not delay to cook after you cut them. Cook them for a while and turn off your stove before they become not fresh anymore.

9th Resolution

Old: Decrease fat intake.

New: Enjoy meals contain omega-3 twice a week.

The best omega-3 is in seafood from deep sea, such as salmon and tuna can affect your mood and metabolism, helping to maintain your ideal weight, prevents heart disease. A study in UK has shown that children who consume omega-3 have better attitude. That is why omega-3 often used as therapy for hyperactive children and adults, mental disorder and depression.

10th Resolution

Old: Decrease your salt intake.

New: Use more spices in your meals.

Spices can help to heal your illness. When you cook, try various spices and herbs for your meals. Exploring something new everyday surely will spice up your life!

11th Resolution

Establish proper measurement for your plans.

There are no purposes considered to be as simple matter. Break down your big goals into several steps. For example, if you want to read a book in a week, try to read 5 pages in one day, then 1 chapter, and so on.

12th Resolution

Give it the time.

We have to practice creating a path for our brain to find better habit. Our brain structure tends to develop our attitudes become habit.

13th Resolution

Plan ahead.

Planning and preparation will make easy our start. Also, helping us to keep focus on the preliminary goals. If you plan to reduce your processed foods and eat more vegetables, replace your processed foods stock in the fridge with fresh vegetables and find new healthy recipes.

Healthy Choice of New You (Part 1)

As New Year celebration already ended, we often had made our resolutions as the new pages of life was approaching. So did you make any new resolutions before the 2009 started? And, how are things going with you now? It is not too late to review again your resolutions this year and make some adjustments.

The criteria for your resolutions should fulfill three crucial conditions, they are as follows:

-          Necessary

-          Practical

-          Easy to implement

Here are some tips below that I adopted from Nirmala health magazine (January 2009 edition) for your reference.  Please pick them up accordingly suit to your needs. The most important things is, do your very best to optimize the things that already provide surround you, so you can stick with your budget allocation and stay healthy naturally at minimum cost.

1st Resolution

Old: Manage Your Stress!

New: Take a deep breath at least for 5 minutes per day and do it everyday J

With appropriate breathing exercise and slowly can break your chain psychological reaction due to stress. A recent study said, “A slow and deep breathing is number one antidote for stress.”

2nd Resolution

Old: Stop Delaying!

New: Make Your Deadlines.

Clarify for your priorities, which one is urgent, or important. Then you should prepare a time schedule for all activities and make commitment to complete it accordingly.

3rd Resolution

Old: Sleep longer.

New: Get sleep earlier at least half an hour.

Adjustment to your sleep schedule will increase your sleep quality. Normally for a day we need between 6 and 8 hours to sleep. Make a special ritual before you go to bed. Five minutes breathing exercise, take a warm bath and drink chamomile tea. A good sleep will benefit your immune system, decrease depression and stabilize your mood.

4th Resolution

Old: Maintain relationships with old friends.

New: Get acquainted with a friend and develop a good relationship.

A good relationship can benefit to your health, extend your age, decrease stress, protect yourself from depression, improve your heart condition and increase your sleep quality. Enhance your friendship quality, either by getting new acquaintance, reconnecting with old friend or make new friends outside your office.

5th Resolution

Old: Keep your body shape.

New: Have a walk at least 1.5 hours per day.

This simple exercise is very effective to increase your immune system, maintain your ideal weight, avoid stress, can help your sleep quality and energy.

6th Resolution

Old: Decrease carbohydrate intake.

New: Start to consume brown rice.

Good carbohydrates for your body are brown rice, nuts and potatoes.

7th Resolution

Old: Stop munching unhealthy snacks.

New: Have your breakfast and lunch with better quality, also replace your unhealthy snacks with healthy snacks.

Increase your nutrition amount in your meals during breakfast and lunch. For instance, have a salad (carrot, broccoli, lettuce, tomatoes, paprika, etc.) with potatoes for your lunch. If you still feel hungry, try to have a glass of warm tea with honey around 3 p.m.

What foods are categorized as healthy snacks? Pop corn, dried fruits.
