Insomnia Home Remedies Can Work For You

Filed Under (Holistic Remedies, Home Remedies) by Eri on 29-10-2009

Insomnia home remedies can be just as effective as prescription medication at getting you to wind down and allow your body the rest that it so desperately needs. Since many of us spend our waking hours rushing here and there and trying to pack in as much as possible, our bodies sometimes can’t slow down and give in to sleep. Try the following suggestions before turning to pharmaceutical treatments.

Exercise can often be one of the most effective drug-free ways to relieve sleeping problems. By doing some rigorous exercise throughout the day and some mild exercise just before bed time you can solve your insomnia problems. Exercise tires out the body, but it also releases endorphins, which help us to relax.

Insomnia home remedies that include a herbal supplement or tea can also be very effective in counteracting sleeplessness. Herbs such as valerian, hops, passion flower, hypericum and chamomile are all used very successfully to help people get off to sleep. Some of these herbs work as mild sedatives and others work by reducing mental tension and anxiety that can lead to insomnia.

If you are experiencing problems with insomnia you should also look at how you have your bedroom set up. Sometimes we unwittingly doom ourselves to failure by putting televisions in our bedroom. Keep your bedroom for sleeping in only, your body should associate this space with rest.

Taking a hot bath around bed time can be a great way to get your body to unwind and feel drowsy. The heat in the bath aids muscle relaxation and can reduce tension. For extra help add a few drops of lavender oil to the water. Before you go to sleep some meditation exercises or light yoga can also be beneficial, this can help to clear our minds of the day’s stress and open up the body to rest.

Insomnia Home Remedies Can Work For You!

There are many simple and effective insomnia home remedies that can work for you. Adults require around 8 hours of sleep every night in order to be able to function the next day. If you are not getting your quota every night, then it can lead to other health problems and stress.

7 Natural Remedies to Conquer Your Insomnia

Filed Under (Natural Cure, Natural Remedies) by Eri on 25-12-2008

Are you always restless in your bed during nights if you cannot sleep well?

Most people often apply the practical way to deal with insomnia, pop some sleeping pills. Unfortunately, those sleeping pills hardly can make you wake up the next morning with fresh feeling and mood.

In the future you’re having problem getting to sleep, try out one of these natural remedies — way milder than the chemical options, but for many people, still effective.

Chamomile Tea

Drink a cup while still warm before hitting the sheets. It can also help to ease your digestive problems and menstrual cramps.

Warm white milk with honey

Drink a glass of warm white milk (skim milk) and add 1 tablespoon of honey. If you feel cold, you can add some ginger to keep your body stay warm. The best way is by boiling half a glass of water and add some ginger into it, wait until you can smell fresh ginger and use small portion of this ginger water into the warm milk.

Celery

Munch on some, because it’s loaded with sedatives. If you are having problem to munch raw vegetable, you can boil water and add celery in it, wait few minutes. You can drink it while still warm. This home remedy is also good for your high blood pressure.

Valerian root

It stinks, but it’s the most effective sleep-inducer of all herbal cures. You can find it in capsule, tea, tablet or liquid extract forms. Other benefits from Valerian root, can also ease anxiety and muscle stiffness.

Lemon balm

It can be soothing and emit a pleasant scent.

Lavender

Take a whiff of lavender while taking a warm evening bath. It relaxes the nervous system, reducing stress hormones that often keep you awake. Lavender’s scent also ups the production of relaxing alpha waves in the brain for deeper sleep. It is also can help to ease migraines.

Hops

If your sleeping problems are connected to your period, hops can be useful because it balances out fluctuating hormone levels. Stuff a sleep sachet containing the herb under your pillow.
