Bananas Diet

Filed Under (Miscellaneous, Natural Remedies) by Eri on 08-05-2009

Recently if you are trying to look for bananas in the supermarket in Japan is very difficult. How come this could ever happen? This is caused by banana daito in Japan. It is a new trend called banana diet. Banana diet was introduced by Sumiko Watanabe, a pharmacist. The essence of this method improves the metabolism in your body.

Watanabe applied this method to her husband who has chubby appearance. As the result her husband lost weight 17 kilograms. No records were found how long her husband has implemented this kind of diet.

A diet method known as “Morning Banana Diet”, lately are quite popular after an opera singer, Kumiko Mori shared her diet story in a television talk show that she has lost 7 kg.

Every one was put into a spell and surprisingly bought all the bananas in the supermarket almost everywhere. Mori shared her tips for the banana diet that she just eats the banana with out the hassle of mixing it into juice or any other means because it is considered as time consuming. Therefore, this diet is easy and has many followers in a short time. Just eat two bananas before breakfast and drink water accordingly. You are allowed to have this banana during your lunch and dinner time as desirable. The best would be having your dinner before 8 pm and no desert afterwards. For Japanese who wants to appear slim this kind of diet is important.

However, Professor Masahiko Okada could not agree to this banana diet method. According to the professor, the human body needs 3 nutrition’s elements: carbohydrate, fat, and protein. The rules of thumb are balancing those 3 nutrition’s elements and monitor the calories consumptions. On the other hand, Professor Sayoko Ikeda from Faculty of Nutrition of Kobe has another opinion, that diet is not healthy and not effective for weight loss because consuming 1 type of food is a bad habit and not sufficient for your body. Since your body requires more nutrition than 1 type of food.

Dear loyal readers, please choose wisely on your diet method. The most important thing is nutrition balance and observes your calories intake regularly.

Have you ever tried this banana diet method or any other similar diet methods? Fire up in the comment section below with your experiences and feedbacks. We love listen to your thoughts, because your opinions matter to us!

A Weight Perspective: You are Skinny, but Fat?

Filed Under (Natural Cure, Natural Remedies) by Eri on 04-03-2009

Five years ago when I had a general medical check up, my weight was considered below average ideal. I was not that skinny type, but need few more kilograms to be considered as a perfect and balance weight related to my body type and height. The most surprising thing was, when they check my Body Mass Index (BMI). It showed much fat! Wow, I even never realized about it previously, that this could endanger my health in the long run. I guess, it’s all because I love to eat ice cream, sweet cakes and cookies. So after so many years, I come across an article from Oprah Winfrey’s site pertaining to this matter. Let’s have a look together.

Surprise: The latest research shows you can be overweight and fit, and thin but carrying too much fat.

Leah Dawson is unhealthy-at least that’s what public health guidelines would have you believe. The 41-year-old mother of three, who manages her husband’s athletic career (he’s Olympic skier Toby Dawson), works out four days a week and carefully monitors her diet. Her cholesterol and blood pressure are enviable. But never mind all that: Leah Dawson is considered “unhealthy” because at 5′8″, her weight has hovered near 170 pounds. That puts her at 26 BMI (body mass index-the height-to-weight formula doctors use to diagnose weight problems), which is in the overweight category. “My doctor would tell me that I needed to lose weight,” she says. “My lab work would come out fine; I’ve even passed a stress test. But I’m never ‘okay.’”

Thirty-nine-year-old Teresa Holler, on the other hand, is considered “healthy.” As a physician assistant, Holler knows she needs to monitor her weight. But after a tough pregnancy six years ago, she slowed down her normally rigorous exercise program. Initially, the trim 5′3″, 128-pound, size-5 Holler wasn’t too concerned: Her BMI remained at 23, putting her in the healthy range of 18.5 to 24.9. Still, she began to worry that something was amiss. “I felt like I was getting this ring of fat around my midsection,” she says. “And I was just less energetic.” This led her to request a body-fat test from her doctor. She was shocked to find the amount of fat she was carrying on her diminutive frame-30 percent-qualified her as borderline obese, dramatically elevating her risk for diabetes and heart disease. “Here I was, spending my days telling other people how to get healthy, and I’d missed this,” she remembers.

Health experts have been too strict with heavy people like Dawson and too lax with normal-weight people like Holler: Researchers at the Mayo Clinic have found that about half of American adults in the normal-body-weight category still have too much body fat-and given that these people also tend to have many of the risk factors associated with heart disease, that assessment is probably correct. “I’m a cardiologist, and I was seeing too many patients whose BMI checked out as normal but who didn’t look right,” says Francisco Lopez-Jimenez, MD, the Mayo doctor who headed the study. “Some had a big belly, some had low muscle mass. And they had high blood sugar and cholesterol. It became clear to me that the measurements we were using weren’t working for these people.”

How risky is it for a normal-weight person to carry too much fat? The answer lies in the way the body stores the stuff. “All fat isn’t created equal,” says Timothy Church, MD, PhD, a professor at Louisiana State University’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center. “The deeply deposited kind-visceral fat-produces three times more bad chemicals than other types, and it drains directly into your liver.”
Visceral fat bulks up the trunk of the body, and it has been directly tied to increased risk of diabetes and heart disease. (People who carry fat on the hips and thighs seem to have a lower risk.)

Importantly, visceral fat tends to be the type normal-weight people have. It sneaks up on a person because it’s not especially visible and it can build up without altering weight-replacing muscle that is naturally lost with aging. And that stealthy buildup of fat may help explain the results of a 2005 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA): Researchers analyzed mortality data of people in different weight categories, from underweight to obese, and found that there were fewer deaths among overweight people than those in the normal-weight group.

That finding may come as quite a shock for Americans, who have had it drilled into them that being heavy will take years off their lives. But evidence to the contrary has been mounting, and a 2008 report on the U.S. population published in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine made the issue impossible to ignore: Half of Americans who are in the overweight BMI category and a third of those in the obese one (30 or greater BMI) are actually healthy-they have plenty of “good” cholesterol, normal blood pressure and glucose levels, and no other risk markers for heart disease.
“In other research I was doing, I was seeing a lot of people who were heavy but fine,” says MaryFran Sowers, PhD, a professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan who co-authored the study. “What was surprising about the study results was that the number of healthy overweight people was so prevalent.

Weight Loss

Lopez-Jimenez agrees. “We’ve long assumed that all people who are overweight have a lot of fat, and that people with normal weight have less fat and more muscle,” he says. “We now know that’s not always true. There are fewer unhealthy overweight people out there, and many more at-risk normal-weight ones than we thought.” In other words, BMI is an imperfect standard. A simple height-versus-weight number can’t account for how a person is built, lean or stocky, big breasted or not.
So if BMI is flawed, what is the best predictor of who is healthy and who isn’t? In Sowers’s study, there was one reliable answer. People who qualified as heavy but still healthy tended to report being physically active. Indeed, her study isn’t the first to note this. Findings published in JAMA in 2007 indicate that fitness level-regardless of weight-is the single strongest predictor of mortality risk. People with the lowest level of fitness were four times more likely to die than those with the highest. Longevity didn’t require superhuman effort, either; people who could pass a minimal fitness test of walking for longer than five and a half minutes on a treadmill had half the risk of an early death as those who failed the challenge.

Taking all the new findings together, the lesson is that even at 170 pounds, Leah Dawson had it right: Eat a good diet and drop any unhealthy habits you might have. Then focus on exercise and forget about striving toward some standardized ideal of weight. “Fitness is the critical piece we’re losing sight of,” says Church. “People get so caught up with weight-they start to exercise, the scale doesn’t move, and they get discouraged. They’re not noticing that their pants fit differently, that they’ve actually lost dangerous visceral fat. When you become active, you’re not just adding muscle, you’re getting healthier.” And that’s what will help you live longer.

Golden Rules for Your Weight Loss

Filed Under (Natural Remedies) by Eri on 28-02-2009

Let’s check it out what these golden rules are all about from Oprah Winfrey’s site. If you are my royal readers and enjoy my previous postings, I believe at this moment - for the sake of your weight loss - you already have the awareness for what kind of food we should have as daily intake. Yes, fresh foods like fruits, veggies, lean meat (chicken and fish), and so on. However, researchers are finding that how we eat can also have a big impact on our waistlines. Do you stand at the kitchen counter? Indulge in snacks in front of the TV? Decide you’re hungry when you smell something savory?

Weight Loss

Three recent studies suggest a pinch of knowledge may be just what the weight loss coach ordered.

1. Sit down, enjoy yourself. Canadian food psychologists gave the same amount of food to people who were either sitting in twos at a table or standing at a kitchen counter eating out of plastic containers. When the researchers tracked what the subjects ate at the next regular meal, they found that the countertop diners ate roughly 30 percent more than those who had been sitting. One reason may be that standing while eating makes a meal feel more like a snack, says Patricia Pliner, PhD, a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto Mississauga and the study’s lead author. The takeaway? “Don’t eat on the run,” she says. It won’t feel like a meal, and you may subconsciously grant yourself permission to eat more later.

2. Inhale, but don’t indulge.
Scientists at Yale University School of Medicine recently discovered that a food’s smell lights up different brain regions than its taste does, which could spell trouble for people watching their weight. The circuits aromas activate are designed to make us seek out the food, which psychologically can lead to cravings and possibly binges, says Dana Small, PhD, an associate professor of psychiatry at Yale who ran the study. She compares the effect on the brain to drug-seeking behavior: “The smell puts people into an agitated state, as in, ‘Get out of my way; I must have chocolate.’” Being aware of your nose’s power over your brain could help. “You might be able to desensitize your brain to tempting food smells by repeatedly ignoring them,” says Small.

3. Be conscious.
Although it won’t surprise anyone who’s ever glanced down from the TV to find an empty bag of corn chips, a study published in the journal Physiology & Behavior found that people’s caloric intake can balloon by up to 71 percent when they eat in front of the tube. Brian Wansink, PhD, a professor at Cornell University and the author of Mindless Eating, explains that munching while watching TV or even reading can be a bad idea for two reasons: “First, you don’t pay attention to whether you’ve had 14 or 40 chips. Second, you often don’t stop eating until the end of the show, regardless of whether you’re full.” If a snack attack hits during your show, reach for low-calorie, high-fiber foods, such as grapes or air-popped popcorn, rather than calorie-dense foods like ice cream or chips. And never bring the whole package to the couch: Just grab a handful or fill a small bowl.

Chocolate as Remedy, More Than Sweet!

Filed Under (Natural Remedies) by Eri on 23-02-2009

A news release from University of Texas M.D. pointed out the great news for Valentine’s Day is by giving dark chocolate to your loved ones, it could help protect them from cancer risks.

Dark chocolate contains antioxidants that have been shown to combat cell damage that can lead to tumor growth. These antioxidants occur naturally in the cacao beans used to make all chocolate products.

Why dark chocolate?

1. The main reason that eating dark chocolate, versus milk or white chocolate is because it has a higher percentage of cacao, and thus antioxidants.

2. People should look for dark chocolate that contains at least 65 percent cacao, according to the American Institute for Cancer Research.

3. Flavonoids, the antioxidants in chocolate, come from the extracts of the cocoa beans. The darker the chocolate, the more antioxidants it has, and the better it is for you.

4. Chocolate also contains oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that can be found in olive oil.

Benefits of dark chocolate:

1. Reduce cancer risks.

2. Guard heart health and preventing cholesterol from sticking to the artery walls, thus reducing the risk for heart attack or stroke.

3. In addition, chocolate includes chemicals that help to lower the risk of sugar-damaged teeth.

Recommendations:

1. Servings for dark chocolate are seven ounces per week, or about one ounce per day.

2. Chocolate is best tasted on an empty stomach at temperatures between 66 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. When tasting chocolate, start with the chocolate containing the least cocoa. Let it sit in your mouth to release the primary flavors and aromas. Chew it a few times to experience the secondary aromas. Finally, place the chocolate gently against the roof of your mouth and savor it.

4. Try making it a part of a healthy snack by combining it with nutrient-rich fruits.

5. Savoring a small amount of dark chocolate is much better than gulping soft drinks or eating doughnuts.

6. Remember, dark chocolate is still a calorie-dense food that can be high in fat. You can enjoy it daily as part of a balanced diet, as long as you keep your portion size in check. It is best to buy chocolate that can be eaten in small portions, such as individually wrapped chocolates or boxed chocolates. Check the ingredients to make sure the chocolate doesn’t contain fats, such as palm and coconut oils, and those they are made without the use of hydrogenated or partially hydrogenate oils.

Thus, it is acknowledged as holistic remedies to any ailments and specifically to prevent any diseases.

In fact, you can found many daily routine things that are simple and already be the part of your life. Moreover, they can serve as your exercise. Be creative and you will be surprised for the amazing result.

For instance, [1] if you usually go to work or shopping by driving a car or ride a bus, you can start by riding a bike. 4 Tricks to Avoid Weight Gain During Holidays

Filed Under (Natural Cure) by Eri on 26-12-2008

As we enter the last 2 seasons in the end of each year, we have many special occasions with family, relatives and friends, from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day. I am sure during those holidays, we are normally being served with eclectic delicious and tempting foods. Unfortunately, no matter how tasty the foods are, they usually contain high calories or in other words could deteriorate your health and make your weight loss program neglected. You probably have been wondering, are there any tricks to maintain a balance weight as well as a healthy life style naturally?

Before a party, you have a healthy snack, fresh fruits and drink  sufficient mineral water to restrain your desire for food.

Additional tips:

Never skip your breakfast. This has been shown to prevent overeating later in the day.

Preparing your meals with garlic and pepper may prevent overeating, according to a study presented at The Endocrine Society’s annual meeting in San Francisco.

Pop a sugar-free mint gum in your mouth, or sip some peppermint tea and take a whiff to outsmart a craving. People who regularly smelled peppermint ate 23 percent fewer calories per week, a study from Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia found.

During the party, bring a healthy dish to a gathering to ensure there’s something you can indulge in.

Additional tips:

Eat the best-for-you offerings first. For example, a healthy hot soup as a first course — especially when it’s broth-based, not cream-based — can help you avoid eating too much during the main course.

Choose foods wisely, filling your plate with low-calorie items, such as leafy green salads, vegetable dishes, and lean proteins, and taking smaller portions of the richer ones. Limit the number of high-calorie foods on your party plate. Your hungry eyes and temptations to eat more will occur if your plate is served with various tastes, textures, smells, shapes, and colors of foods. Thus, it is based on a study, despite your true hunger level.

Focus on your meal while you’re eating it and have a seat during meals — concentrating on chewing your food well and enjoying the smell, taste, and texture of each item. Eating while seated at a table with nice plates and utensils can lead you to consume about a third less than if you munch on the fly, a study in the journal Appetite notes. Eat more slowly, so you have time to notice when your body sends the all-full signal. Of course, dinner-party conversations is only natural, but try to set your food down until you’re finished chatting so you are more aware of what you’re taking in.

Stand more than an arm’s length away from munchies, like a bowl of nuts or chips, while you chat so you’re not tempted to raise your hand to your mouth every few seconds.

To reduce on food court temptation, never go to the mall on an empty stomach.

Additional tips:

Plan your shopping route so you don’t pass the Dairy Queen stand a dozen times. The obvious reason? Both sights and smells can coax you to eat, and with some vendors purposefully wafting their aromas your way, saying NO can feel impossible.

Choose a proper restaurant over the grab-and-go food court whenever you can, and request a table away from loud sounds and distractions, which can cause you to eat more. The bright lights and noisy hard surfaces can speed up the rate at which you eat and lead to overeating.

Avoid fast-food places that emphasize red in their color schemes. Red has been shown to stimulate the appetite more than many other colors, and many restaurants add it to their decor, in everything from the flowers on the table to the squiggles on the plates.

Keep a food journal to help you stay persistent to your goals during this risky eating period.

Additional tip:

Zip yourself into your favorite pair of slim-fitting pants and casual shirt once a week and note how they fit. Too tight? Adjust your eating and exercise habits. Just right? Keep up the good work.

- An apple and a cup of green tea provide enough oxidation and energy to replace one meal.

- Eat more vegetables and less meat. It’s important to favor chlorophyll-rich foods, including asparagus. Asparagus is a nutrient-rich vegetable packed with folate, vitamins A, C, and K, and fiber, also contains a carbohydrate known as inulin (not to be confused with insulin) that promotes healthy bacteria in the large intestine - which in turn promotes a healthier digestive function.

- Drink warm or hot green tea regularly without sugar (especially Japanese green tea and Chinese green tea called “Oolong”), and it’s good to add some lime squeeze in it plus honey.  Green tea is a wonderful alternative to coffee in that it does provide a little caffeine but also contains beneficial antioxidants.

- For breakfast have oatmeal Quaker oats and eat in plain (no sugar, no milk, but it can be added with fresh fruits, such as banana, strawberry and raisin).

- As a substitute of breakfast, consume 2 ripe red tomatoes in the morning for few months.

- Drink soybean milk, also without sugar to replace milk from animals (cow).

- If you are really hungry between meals and want to munch something, it is far better to munch fresh fruits, or salads, dried nuts and any other healthy snacks that are not contain MSG, preservatives, food coloring, etc.

13 Ailments Caused by Lack of Water

Filed Under (Natural Cure, Natural Remedies) by Eri on 04-11-2008

Most people don’t think they need to worry about dehydration. To them, dehydration is something that happens to travelers in the desert when they run out of water. But there is a chronic form of dehydration that does not have the sudden and intense nature of the acute form. Chronic dehydration is widespread in the present day and affects everyone who is not drinking enough liquid.

This list of 13 symptoms will inspire you to go get a glass of water, and then another, and another…

After each symptom the list below will show how lack of fluid affects the issue.

1. Fatigue, Energy Loss: Dehydration of the tissues causes enzymatic activity to slow down.

2. Premature Aging: The body of a newborn child is composed of 80 percent liquid, but this percentage declines to no more than 70 percent in an adult and continues to decline with age.

3. Excess Weight and Obesity: We may overeat because we crave foods rich in water. Thirst is often confused with hunger.

4. High and Low Blood Pressure: The body’s blood volume is not enough to completely fill the entire set of arteries, veins, and capillaries.

5. Cholesterol: When dehydration causes too much liquid to be drained from inside the cells, the body tries to stop this loss by producing more cholesterol.

6. Constipation: When chewed food enters the colon, it contains too much liquid to allow stools to form properly, and the wall of the colon reduces it. In chronic dehydration, the colon takes too much water to give to other parts of the body.

7. Digestive Disorders: In chronic dehydration, the secretion of digestive juices is less.

8. Gastritis, Stomach Ulcers: To protect its mucous membranes from being destroyed by the acidic digestive fluid it produces, the stomach secretes a layer of mucus.

9. Respiratory Troubles: The mucous membranes of the respiratory region are slightly moist to protect the respiratory tract from substances that might be present in inhaled air.

10. Acid-Alkaline Imbalance: Dehydration activates an enzymatic slowdown producing acidification.

11. Eczema: Your body needs enough moisture to sweat 20 to 24 ounces of water, the amount necessary to dilute toxins so they do not irritate the skin.

12. Cystitis, Urinary Infections: If toxins contained in urine are insufficiently diluted, they attack the urinary mucous membranes.

13. Rheumatism: Dehydration abnormally increases the concentration of toxins in the blood and cellular fluids, and the pains increase in proportion to the concentration of the toxins.
